Economic Affairs Intern

This internship is located in the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) within the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The intern will assist in supporting the work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, including research, drafting documents, attending meetings, and other related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, reviewing and preparing papers, presentations, studies, reports and other relevant documents.
• Attend, provide assistance, and summarize conferences and meetings, including virtual meetings.
• Conduct research, compilation and analysis of information in tax matters, including multilateral treaties, tax treaties, taxation of income from cross-border services, prevention and resolution of tax disputes, exchange of information, and tax-related environmental, social and governance issues.
• Prepare and provide input for briefing notes, talking points, speeches and similar materials on tax matters and development cooperation issues for senior UN officials.
• Follow relevant intergovernmental meetings of the General Assembly and Economic and Social Council and prepare draft summaries.
• Assist with any other ad hoc assignments related to the work of the office.

Requirements

• Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
• Applicants within a few years from graduation who could not apply earlier and who are in an early stage of their careers may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
• A field of study closely related to the internship is required.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
• Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
