The Claims Assistant will process health insurance claims, verify payments, and assist with administrative tasks related to medical claims within the Medical Insurance Section of the United Nations Office at Geneva. The role involves checking claims, validating expenses, responding to queries, and maintaining records under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Processes health insurance claims.
  • Checks claims, prior authorizations and supporting documents; checks benefits and related costs.
  • Verifies and validates expenses, uses accurate reimbursement codes and effects data validation in the Medical Insurance Underwriting System (MIUS) and the e-Claims portal of UNSMIS.
  • Assists in responding to complex queries relating to high value medical claims and requests from many different countries.
  • Researches necessary information related to accidents of staff members during the performance of official duties or involving a third party.
  • Timely follows-up on pending files.
  • Analyzes the list of pending payments and the list of pending claims.
  • Helps checking discrepancy lists and reconciliations of payments.
  • Assists in drafting responses to insured members.
  • Archives medical claim files.
  • Assists with periodical quality checks of medical claims.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Specialization in accounting is desirable.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in finance, accounting or related areas are required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • At least two (2) years' experience within the United Nations Common System or in a similar international organization is desirable.
  • English is required at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Either French or Arabic or Chinese (Mandarin) or Russian or Spanish or Dutch is desirable at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
