Project Assistant

The Project Assistant will operate under complex security environments to ensure continuity of life-saving malaria services including case management, reporting, stock monitoring, and volunteer supervision under a Health Project funded by GFATM in Mongmit township, Northern Shan State.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Coordinator in planning and preparing work plan and field activities of malaria project under access constraints.
• Conduct report collection, checking and verification for volunteer activities, and submit reports monthly.
• Facilitate capacity building trainings and workshops for malaria volunteers and other stakeholders.
• Conduct regular monitoring visits to assigned project villages and report findings with action plan.
• Responsible for health education sessions, behavior change communication and awareness raising activities at village and work sites level.
• Submit monthly activity and narrative reports to supervisor.
• Assist supervisor in budget estimation and cash forecasting for assigned project activities.
• Build and maintain operational access through coordination with local authorities, community leaders, and relevant actors under sensitive context.
• Assist in procurement of materials, supplies and maintenance of project equipment and repair as necessary.
• Participate in project surveys and need assessments as required.
• Coordinate and collaborate with township focal persons and participate in malaria elimination activities such as malaria case reporting and investigation.
• Identify and map Mobile Migrant Ethnic and Vulnerable populations (MMEVs) of assigned townships regularly and submit updated information to line manager.
• Keep records of activities and report regularly on programme progress.
• Support organization’s efforts towards accountability to beneficiaries, including child participation and complaints & response mechanisms.
• Ensure programme benefits poorest and most disadvantaged community especially MMEVs.
• Organize project intervention campaigns such as distribution of LLINs, Active Case Detection and Mass Malaria Screening with participation of volunteers and community.
• Assist and participate in any necessary tasks related with program or operational sides assigned by line managers.
• Create and promote an environment where the Child Safeguarding Policy is effectively implemented.
• Take all necessary steps to prevent fraud, bribery, and corruption within areas of responsibility and comply with relevant policies.

Requirements

• Any graduates.
• Experience in community-based programs for a minimum of 2 years, especially in health-related programs preferably Malaria programs.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision in remote and conflict-affected areas.
• Good communication skills and/or social mobilization skills.
• Willingness to travel and night-stop at field project villages, and work in difficult and challenging working environment with limited support.
• Experience and knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Sensitivity to the cultural & political environment, with the experience of working in conflict affected areas.
• Experience of working in a team/willing to work with team.
• Adaptable and practical, diplomatic skills and behaviors.
• Sensitivity to the cultural & political environment, and ability to learn about these.
• Due to the nature of program, local candidates who know the context of project locations are preferable.
• Well-known local context and well use local language.
• Can drive well on motorbikes.
• Willing to travel very remote area.
• Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements.
• Good people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment which encourages team-working and motivates a team across various geographical areas.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children.
• Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
