The Statistician will contribute to the OECD's work programme on Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) and related statistical indicators. The role involves statistical work, economic research, drafting, and collaboration with international colleagues and data producers to support the production and dissemination of PPPs and productivity statistics.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the production (calculation, survey management and validation, data checks) of PPPs and related indicators for countries under the OECD-Eurostat joint programme and all associated documentation and briefing materials.
  • Contribute to blog posts or short papers to disseminate and promote the OECD’s work on PPPs.
  • Contribute to analytical and research activities of the Division and to the production of working papers and publications related to measurement issues.
  • Keep abreast of research on PPPs and relevant methodological developments.
  • Assist with the maintenance of core databases, as needed.
  • Support the continuous improvement and modernisation of PPP update processes and data infrastructure, including documentation.
  • Develop good working relationships with colleagues across the OECD and other relevant directorates to ensure coordination on PPP statistics and other statistics covered by the Division.
  • Establish contacts with data producers in national statistical offices, national administrations, other international organisations, and academics working on related topics.
  • Participate in expert meetings and workshops related to productivity measurement and analysis, and prepare and present research papers to diverse audiences.
  • Provide overall support to the Head of the Section and undertake other tasks as required.

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree or equivalent qualification in statistics, economics or econometrics, with a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and statistics.
  • At least two years of professional experience working with economic statistics; experience working with price statistics and PPPs would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in the production, maintenance and quality assurance of statistical indicators.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in research and analytical activities; experience in quantitative analysis, including a solid understanding of macroeconomic concepts, would be an advantage.
  • Excellent skills in handling large datasets would be an advantage.
  • Good drafting skills would be an advantage.
  • Experience in preparing research papers within academia or an international organisation would be an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel. Knowledge of VBA would be an advantage.
  • Excellent programming skills and experience with data management and analysis using software such as R, Python or Stata.
  • Experience in web-scraping software tools and/or machine-learning techniques would be a distinct advantage.
  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.
  • Fluency in Spanish would be an advantage.
