The Shelter Technical Assistant supports the Shelter and settlements department in daily implementation of project activities in Beni, North Kivu. The role involves technical assistance in construction projects, coordination with logistics and community, and reporting on project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Work in compliance with NRC policies, tools, manuals, and directives.
  • Assist in project implementation according to the Shelter plan and strategy.
  • Propose ideas to improve the Shelter Technical Assistant function in Beni sub-office.
  • Write reports on Shelter activities progress as requested.
  • Ensure proper archiving of documents with the Shelter Coordinator.
  • Participate in community sensitization meetings and monitor local contributions.
  • Participate in field evaluations for new interventions.
  • Support visits by interested parties to NRC projects.
  • Draft technical drawings and cost estimates for construction projects under supervision.
  • Perform site layout and technical follow-up of construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance of construction materials and equipment with NRC and DRC standards.
  • Participate in recruitment of occasional labor under supervision.
  • Plan supervision activities and follow-up on construction sites.
  • Prepare requisition forms for materials supply.
  • Collaborate with logistics and community members to control material quantities delivered to sites.
  • Plan material supply to construction sites with logistics.
  • Manage stock on site and verify appropriate and transparent use of materials.
  • Conduct unannounced checks on labor and material use on sites.
  • Assist technicians and local committees in work execution and capacity building.
  • Hold weekly meetings on construction progress and upcoming activities.
  • Write weekly reports on fieldwork progress to supervisor.
  • Maintain good working relations with local authorities, communities, committees, partners, and project stakeholders.
  • Report regularly to hierarchy for support when needed.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or civil engineering (BTP).
  • Knowledge of the socio-economic, legal, and environmental context of the Grand Nord-Kivu region.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent software is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in French and Swahili.
  • Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
  • Knowledge of local construction practices.
  • Knowledge of the local environment of Grand-Nord Kivu is an asset.
