Shelter & WASH Coordinator Chad Adre (Chadian only)

The Shelter & WASH Coordinator will manage operational projects related to shelter and water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH) in the Ouaddai province of Chad. The role involves leadership, coordination, and implementation of humanitarian projects targeting refugees and vulnerable populations in a complex and unstable environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage operational implementation of shelter and WASH projects in the intervention area under the supervision of the Field Manager.
• Lead and supervise shelter and WASH officers and assistants, including performance management, recruitment, integration, and development.
• Support colleagues with responsibilities in shelter and WASH and provide appropriate training.
• Contribute to the development of shelter and WASH strategy and project proposals.
• Manage project activities, budgets, and documentation in compliance with proposals, strategies, and donor requirements.
• Report regularly to Field Manager and Program Manager on project progress.
• Ensure projects target beneficiaries with greatest protection needs and evaluate new ways to provide assistance.
• Promote improvements and changes in activities.
• Strengthen staff capacities and transfer key skills.
• Promote refugee rights and vulnerable populations throughout project cycles and report alerts.
• Ensure compliance with NRC policies and procedures related to shelter and WASH.
• Coordinate and implement shelter and WASH projects according to strategy and operational plans.
• Develop annual activity and work plans, purchase requests, and other required documents.
• Monitor financial expenditures of shelter and WASH activities.
• Ensure quality control of projects and activities.
• Promote ideas for improving actions and propose necessary modifications.
• Participate in designing and improving training modules.
• Organize training for shelter and WASH teams, partners, and beneficiaries.
• Produce monthly activity and project reports and other required reports.
• Develop synergy with other NRC core competencies for integrated and holistic response.
• Contribute to the development of new shelter and WASH projects.
• Participate in thematic group meetings for shelter and WASH to promote information sharing and collaboration.
• Ensure archiving of all project documents.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (BAC+3 minimum) in Building and Public Works, Civil Engineering, Rural Engineering, Hydraulics, Rural Development or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in implementing shelter and/or WASH projects in a humanitarian or recovery context.
• At least 2 years of prior experience as a Program Coordinator or equivalent position in complex and unstable contexts.
• Good analytical and writing skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Fluency in French, both written and spoken; good knowledge of Arabic (Sudanese, Chadian) and English is a plus.
• Knowledge of refugee aid context in eastern Chad and Sudan is an asset.
• Good knowledge of donor regulations, especially ECHO, NORAD, SDC, SIDA.
