See your match score & applyThe Area Manager position ensures delivery of the NRC country strategy within their Area Office in Sudan, focusing on programme implementation, staff management, security, and coordination in a complex humanitarian context. Responsibilities
- Line management responsibilities for directly reporting staff including senior project staff and support functions in the area
- Management of workforce planning, recruitment, staff induction and development and ensuring Duty of Care for own staff
- Ensure overall security and safety of staff in the area
- Provide capacity building to all staff in the area
- Implement projects in compliance with contractual commitments and aligned to regional and global strategies
- Assess needs, develop emergency response and implement response plans including cash-based interventions and market-based programmes
- Ensure optimal use of resources within allocated project budgets and country strategies
- Represent NRC and networking on area level
- Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
- Member of the Country Management Group (CMG)
- Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
- Develop and lead the Area Management Team
- Ensure participation of displacement- and conflict-affected people in decision-making processes and accountability loops
- Manage relationships with local authorities and institutions, support local partners and engage with local institutions and systems
- Support delivery of NRC Sudan’s country strategy including technology use, local markets and service providers, protection, and systems engagement
- Develop an area programme assisting at least 500,000 people annually and making strategic impact beyond programme delivery
- Develop access protocols and engagement strategies for external relations and principled negotiations
- Build a team culture of improvement and accountability
- Ensure timely response to emergencies when NRC is best placed to respond
- Position NRC Sudan as a systems enabler and supporter of local opportunities despite protection crisis
- Support analysis of decentralized authority within the Area Office for logistics, finance, and HR functions
- Participate and represent NRC in relevant State and region-level coordination fora and ensure sectoral/thematic coordination delegation
- Membership in the state-level INGO Forum Steering Committee
Requirements
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience from working as a Senior Project Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Experience in implementing and managing cash-based interventions and market-based programmes as well as partnerships with national NGOs
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- Knowledge and active interest of the context in Sudan is desirable
- Knowledge of Arabic language or other local languages is desirable
- Experience with high-risk contexts, access constrained operating environments, and hardship duty stations with limited amenities
- Strong leadership skills and a supportive management style, including in remote modalities
- Creativity and open-ness to new ways of working
- Efficient and effective communication skills to influence power internally and externally
