The LANDCOM Internship Programme 2027 offers current students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain experience at NATO Allied Land Command. Interns will support the Political Advisor Office by preparing briefings, monitoring political-military issues, providing geopolitical analysis, and supporting NATO events and visits.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Political Advisor Office by preparing targeted briefings and think pieces on potential conflict areas, political developments, security and stability matters, local governments, international organization activities, and the nexus of political extremism, organized crime, armed violence and terrorism.
  • Monitor press, products, briefings and readouts to identify emerging political-military issues relevant to the LANDCOM mission.
  • Develop slides and scripts for weekly Situational Update Briefs (SUB) and Combined Situational Update Brief (C-SUB).
  • Provide geopolitical analysis of special events such as NATO Summits.
  • Support NATO high-level visits, exercises, and conferences.
  • Prepare Commanding General (CG) briefs for country visits.
  • Prepare and update POLAD TOY guides providing geopolitical, regional, and cultural context for LANDCOM activities with partners.
  • Attend briefings representing the POLAD Office, provide readouts and brief as required.
  • Maintain internal POLAD SharePoint site.
  • Produce SUB and C-SUB reports, TOY Country Guides, and update POLAD SharePoint site.
  • Perform other operational and administrative tasks as required.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be citizens of a NATO member nation.
  • Applicants must have a certificate from their university stating that the internship is necessary for their professional development.
  • Applicants must be proficient in English.
  • Applicants must have at least two years of successful university study or equivalent.
  • The program is open to current students or recent graduates (degree obtained within the last 18 months).
  • University Degree in political science, public administration, international relations or related discipline or be in the final 18 months of a program resulting in such a degree.
  • Experience in International Affairs and familiarity with NATO role, policies and practices, including political advice, NATO defence policy, NATO military operations, command decision-making, relationships with nations, and international organizations operating with or alongside NATO.
  • Tactful individual with sound judgment, flexibility and ability to express persuasively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate comfortably in a multi-national environment.
