The International Affairs Analyst analyzes and interprets political information across the NSD-S geographical area to support NATO's knowledge requirements. The role involves evaluating geopolitical relations, formulating strategies on African and Middle East programs, and liaising with international institutions and government officials.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and provide recommendations on geopolitical relations, particularly multilateral, regional and bilateral agreements in Africa and Middle East.
  • Formulate strategies and recommendations on African union and Middle East programs aligned with NATO directives and policies.
  • Assess and identify mechanisms to influence African and Middle East organizations.
  • Evaluate African and Middle East initiatives to identify NATO’s opportunities for further cooperation.
  • Liaise with government officials, civic bodies, research agencies, the media, and political parties concerned with foreign issues.
  • Develop and evaluate international cooperation projects in governmental and non-governmental forums and other activities.
  • Liaise and collaborate with international institutions and government officials from Africa and Middle East.
  • Provide analysis on the international system and how Africa and Middle East effects determine its foreign policy behaviour.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities within NATO and non-NATO staff on issues related to cooperative security activities.
  • Provide final products to the Senior Knowledge management section for final approval.
  • Monitor, track and assess geopolitical dynamics and developments in the NSD-S area to anticipate security and instability trends and their impact.
  • Work closely with Senior Knowledge manager and Knowledge managers on knowledge requirements priorities and deliverables.
  • May direct and supervise the work priorities of one or more HQ multifunctional teams.
  • Undertake short-term travel assignments within and outside NATO boundaries, up to 30 days, sometimes on short notice.

Requirements

  • University Degree in political science, public administration, international relations, criminology, police, public or business administration, administration of justice, criminal law, comparative general management, political theory, behavioural or social psychology or related discipline, and 2 years function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation, with 4 years post-related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in activities and responsibilities involving Political sciences and civics (Including the study of the rights and duties of the citizens).
  • Experience in activities that derive intelligence on issues that transcend national boundaries such as, asymmetric warfare, terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction computer network attack, organised crime, etc.
  • Ample professional background within regional and international organizations (governmental and non-governmental) related to African and Middle East area.
  • Must have an English Standard Language Proficiency level of “professional” in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (SLP 3333 based on NATO standards).
  • Post-graduate university education and/or National General Staff College or NATO Defence College graduate (desirable).
  • Previous job-related International experience (UN, NATO, EU) (desirable).
  • Experience in National and NATO staff operations (desirable).
  • English Standard Language Proficiency level of “expert” in Listening and Reading and of “Professional” in Speaking and Writing (SLP 4343 based on NATO standards) (desirable).
  • NATO Courses/Training: NATO Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Course, NATO Intelligence Analyst Course, NATO CIVIL MILTIARY COOPERATION (CIMIC) STAFF COURSE (NU) (desirable).
