The Analyst (Wargaming) supports the design, analysis and execution of joint operational wargames to inform command decision-making within NATO's Allied Joint Force Command Naples. The role involves contributing to wargaming doctrine, supporting operations and exercise planning, and collaborating with NATO and national wargaming entities.

Responsibilities

  • Enables the design, analysis and execution of joint operational wargames.
  • Assist in identifying customer requirements and designing wargames.
  • Support Operations planning, exercise planning and mission rehearsal processes through the provision of wargaming and simulation support.
  • Contribute to the development of pan-NATO wargaming doctrine and policy, and of technical and non-technical tools to support wargaming.
  • Contribute to the JFCNP HQ wargaming community of interest, including wargaming training, education and professional development.
  • Enables JFCNP contribution to the wider network of wargaming in NATO through networking with other NATO entities, national wargaming entities, industry and academia involved in wargaming.
  • Enables use of JFCNP wargame library and knowledge base to ensure continuity of knowledge and opportunities for re-design and re-use of wargames for resource efficiencies where possible.
  • Coordinates with SHAPE the procurement of commercial wargames, tools and consumable as needed.
  • Contribute to the trial of the operational analysis and wargaming branch for the enhanced joint assessment and analysis capability under NATO 2030.

Requirements

  • University Degree in operations research, military operations research, mathematics, statistics or related numerate discipline, computer science or related discipline and 2 years function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
  • Experience in conducting operational analysis/operational research in support of complex operational problems.
  • In-depth knowledge of a broad range of operational analysis/operational research techniques.
  • Responsible for planning and co-ordinating team activities and for ensuring the quality of their work.
  • Experience of planning and conducting military wargames in a national or NATO context.
  • Experience of military modelling, simulation and wargaming together with expertise on computer systems and related applications.
  • Facilitates collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives.
  • Plans, schedules and monitors work to meet time and quality targets.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with good briefing skills (including visualisations for customers).
  • English - SLP 3333 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) based on NATO Standards.
