As a Medical Officer, you play a key medical role in the operational cell supporting Medical Coordinators to safeguard the medical quality of projects. You ensure strong overview and support in preparation and implementation of projects mainly in West-Africa & Sahel contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Co-define and co-design the Medical Operations strategy implementation with medical coordination teams and Deputy Medical Operations Coordinator
  • Provide strategic input, leadership, and guidance to ensure plans are practical, achievable, and aligned with medical priorities
  • Ensure comprehensive monitoring and follow-up of medical strategy implementation in all MSF operations
  • Provide regular support to medical coordinators in project follow-up and implementation
  • Ensure medical resources, policies, and guidelines are relevant, appropriate, available, and effectively managed
  • Ensure and actively monitor implementation of Quality of Care standards and improvement plans
  • Monitor and analyze medical activities and ensure data-driven decision-making
  • Propose improvements to management and tracking tools to enhance oversight of medical programs
  • Oversee medical stock strategy and management including emergency preparedness
  • Oversee human resource needs and planning for projects
  • Collaborate on budget planning and management for medical operations
  • Participate in medical support for emergency responses and ensure rapid deployment of resources
  • Ensure Emergency Preparedness and Response strategy is updated and adapted
  • Provide first-line follow-up and inputs on technical files
  • Review and validate health policies for International Mobile Staff and Country Based Staff
  • Facilitate management of staff health files and medical evacuations
  • Engage with medical referents and facilitate communication between medical teams and department
  • Promote open communication and information flow within cell and medical department
  • Replace Deputy Medical Operations Coordinator during absences or upon request

Requirements

  • Medical or paramedical degree is mandatory
  • Degree in Public Health or Epidemiology and/or basic knowledge of Humanitarian law is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of MSF international experience in different Operational contexts
  • Minimum 1 year experience as Medical Coordinator with MSF is mandatory
  • Experience in hospital management is an asset
  • Experience in epidemics, public health, nutrition, IDPs (Internal Displaced populations) and refugees, emergency responses are an asset
  • Proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken is mandatory
