The Project Architect will support the implementation of the Mayors Challenge project in Cartagena, Colombia, focusing on improving conditions for traditional street vendors in the historic district. The role involves designing project equipment prototypes, managing procurement processes, supervising service providers, and sharing project learnings globally.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed designs for various types of equipment required by the Mayors Challenge project in Cartagena, including technical specifications for different vendor carts by activity type.
- Lead planning, decision-making, execution, and review of all equipment needs for the project.
- Prepare Terms of Reference for procurement processes, including technical specifications for equipment needs.
- Supervise service providers, consultants, and/or private entities responsible for architectural designs and conduct performance evaluations according to UNDP standards and procedures.
- Certify that architectural design services have been satisfactorily delivered to the municipality.
- Facilitate analysis of information necessary for procurement planning and monitor implementation.
- Supervise project operations including administrative tasks, personnel management, office supply inventory, and ensure proper implementation of procedures.
- Produce technical knowledge products on how the project contributes to the SDGs by innovating public service delivery.
- Contribute to policy reports and knowledge materials communicating lessons learned from the project from a technical and architectural perspective.
- Participate in global experience exchanges among local governments on SDG implementation at the local level.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships and strategic links with project implementation partners including government officials, businesses, NGOs, national actors, and beneficiaries to support key objectives and ensure inclusive participation.
- Perform other functions as necessary for efficient office and organizational operation.
Requirements
- Master's Degree or equivalent in Architecture is required.
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) in Architecture combined with two additional years of qualified experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
- Applicants with a Master's degree in a relevant field do not require professional work experience.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's degree must have at least two (2) years of relevant professional experience in architecture or engineering, including at least one (1) year of experience related to urban matters.
- Experience with computer and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is desirable.
- Proven experience working with local governments and their associations is desirable.
- Experience working with the 2030 Agenda or other UN global agendas is desirable.
- Experience in projects related to informality, community organization, or income generation for vulnerable populations is desirable.
- Experience in urban design and development processes, as well as in developing architectural projects for public spaces, is desirable.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
