The Staff Officer (Force Health Protection) provides subject matter expertise in medical preventive medicine to promote and conserve the physical and mental well-being of forces, reduce disease and injury impact, and enhance operational readiness within NATO's operational area. The role involves planning, coordinating, and advising on preventive medicine, public health, environmental and occupational health across the mission spectrum.

Responsibilities

  • Lead processes in the special field of expertise (Force Health Protection).
  • Plan, coordinate, monitor and advise on preventive medicine, public health, environmental and occupational health within the entire mission spectrum.
  • Ensure access to Medical Force Protection concerned databases from military and civilian sources.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on development and promulgation of force health protection and analyze medical reports, military and open source medical information.
  • Provide SME for building the Recognized Medical Picture (RMedP).
  • Establish contacts and cooperation in terms of Hygiene/FHP with national/multinational medical staffs, other HQs, national medical units, CIMIC organisations, GOs/IOs/NGOs.
  • Collect and analyse EPINATO / EPIASSES reports and process these data.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of SOIs, SOPs, working instructions.
  • Contribute to all medical matters related to preparing, conducting, controlling and evaluating current operations within the entire mission spectrum.

Requirements

  • University Degree in medical discipline, Epidemiology, Public Health or related discipline and 2 years function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
  • Proven experience in Medical Preventive Medicine including activities and measures implemented before, during and after deployments to protect health of forces against any adverse issues.
  • English language proficiency at SLP 3333 level (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing).
  • Desirable: Further training certificates and courses related to subject field or acquired through NATO (e.g., NATO Medical Intelligence Course, NATO Orientation Course).
  • Ability to assess complex processes and propose actionable recommendations in a multinational team environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and a creative approach to bridge complex challenges regarding force health protection.
  • Clarity of thought, sound consistent judgement and ability to deal with projects with confidentiality.
  • Good health constitution, willingness to work occasional outside normal office hours and travel as part of the appointment.
  • Acceptance of deployment in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments within and outside NATO boundaries, possibly exceeding 30 days duration.
