The intern will support the development of high-level indicators on the environmental burden of chemicals and waste, assist with data collection, curation, analysis, and visualization, and contribute to preparations for the 1st Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) International Conference in Geneva.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of a high-level indicator on the environmental burden of chemicals and waste by supporting testing and prototype development, conducting data collection and curation, including identification and consolidation of relevant datasets, and assisting with data analysis and visualization.
- Support work on target indicators for the Strategic Objectives of the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) through data collection and validation, data curation and preparation in advance of the 1st GFC International Conference.
- Assist in the preparation of relevant documentation for the 1st GFC International Conference, including contributions to drafts and background materials.
- Provide support to the delivery of the first GFC International Conference (16 to 20 November, Geneva).
- Help support development of a range of banners and newsletters for Global Framework on Chemicals Secretariat, the Fund and the Special Programme as well as materials to support resource mobilisation efforts including pitch decks for prospective donors.
Requirements
- Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- A field of study closely related to the internship type is required, such as chemistry, environmental science, data science, or a related field.
- Interest in data management, including basic data collection, organization and quality control.
- Familiarity with standard office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Experience or strong interest in data visualization and presenting data clearly is an asset.
- Good organizational and research skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate information clearly, including through drafting and visual presentation (e.g. charts, dashboards, slides).
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
