The consultant will coordinate the implementation of a solid waste management project focused on plastic pollution in Mumbai, India. The role involves stakeholder engagement, project coordination, and supporting the Government of India for effective project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities with all stakeholders including government officials, civil society organizations, research organizations, inter-governmental organizations, multilateral organizations, private sector, funding agencies and philanthropic organizations.
  • Map out expertise and align efforts to assist the Government of India for effective implementation of the solid waste management project in Mumbai.
  • Support the design and implementation of scalable, locally relevant solutions for plastic waste management.
  • Report to Head, UNEP India Country Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/ environmental management/ ocean science/ social sciences/ management / pollution studies/communication or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with three additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience; in solid waste management with specific focus on plastic waste management is required.
  • Experience in engaging with different stakeholders in the related field is desirable.
  • Experience in planning and execution of outreach activities both online and offline is desirable.
  • Experience in dealing with developing countries and international institutions is an asset.
  • Experience in working with the Government of India or other national institutions in India is desirable.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and reporting cycles.
  • Ability to convene multistakeholder events.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with behavioral sciences.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Knowledge of Marathi and Hindi is an advantage.
