The Education Specialist will coordinate and implement UNICEF's EU Funded “Last Mile Connectivity of Schools” and Dutch Funded “PROSPECTS” Integrated Projects, providing technical assistance on climate-resilient education systems. The role involves project management, donor coordination, monitoring, reporting, and partnership building to support education and climate resilience initiatives in Kenya.
Responsibilities
- Represent UNICEF in donor/partnership negotiations, meetings, briefings, field missions and visibility efforts related to EU and PROSPECTS projects.
- Engage in programme planning, coordinating priorities, targeting criteria and implementation plans for EU and PROSPECTS projects and climate change education work.
- Establish and strengthen coordination structures within UNICEF and partners for smooth project implementation and communication.
- Support overall project management, including joint field visits, monitoring progress, identifying bottlenecks, and advising on corrective actions.
- Participate in project monitoring, evaluation, reviews and coordinate communication of lessons learnt.
- Coordinate quality and timely reporting of technical and financial project results in line with donor requirements.
- Monitor and verify appropriate use of financial resources ensuring compliance with rules and donor commitments.
- Support preparation of financial reports by coordinating inputs and analysis of utilized funds.
- Provide technical guidance on climate change and education to government, NGO, UN and country office partners.
- Organize regular coordination meetings for programme/project updates and decision-making.
- Coordinate work progress monitoring to ensure results are achieved on schedule and shared for timely actions.
- Build and sustain partnerships with government, UN agencies, consortia, organizations, global partners and donors for capacity building and cooperation.
- Represent UNICEF in education, PROSPECTS, EU projects and climate coordination forums to advocate for children’s rights and organizational priorities.
- Prepare briefings on project implementation status as needed.
- Organize and implement capacity building initiatives to enhance competencies of stakeholders for sustainable education results.
Requirements
- Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Business Administration, Social Science, Education, International Development, Environment or any other related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Integrated/multisectoral programming, Coordination/Management, Partnership Development, UNICEF Experience or any other related field.
- Knowledge in Multisectoral Programming, Project Coordination, Donor/Partner Relations is required.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
- Experience in Refugee Education, Education Program-Management, Skills Building, ECHO-PROSPECTS Experience, Humanitarian Experience is an asset.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is an asset.
