The Project Assistant supports technical, operational, and territorial coordination for the implementation of strategies and activities aimed at reducing mercury use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (MAPE) in Ecuador. The role involves facilitating communication among project stakeholders, conducting field visits, supporting pilot projects, and assisting in documentation and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical, operational, and territorial support for implementing project strategies and activities as defined in the PRODOC.
- Support coordination of technical, operational meetings and working groups with local and inter-institutional actors.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between project coordination, public institutions, private actors, community organizations, and beneficiaries.
- Conduct field visits and territorial monitoring to verify compliance with activities, strategies, and agreements.
- Identify needs, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen project implementation and mercury reduction actions.
- Support call processes, participation, and logistical coordination of local actors in project activities.
- Support implementation, monitoring, and documentation of pilot projects, incentives, and productive alternatives aimed at cleaner processes and mercury reduction/elimination.
- Support operational field activities for pilot projects and clean production initiatives.
- Identify beneficiaries and local actors for incentives and productive alternatives implementation.
- Conduct periodic monitoring and follow-up of implemented activities and collect information on progress and results.
- Facilitate training, technical assistance, and awareness-raising sessions for beneficiaries and communities.
- Systematize experiences, lessons learned, and good practices from executed activities.
- Support sensitization, training, and community strengthening activities including logistical organization and operational support for workshops, meetings, and events.
- Coordinate logistics for workshops, training, meetings, and community events.
- Manage calls, participant confirmations, and agenda coordination for sensitization and training activities.
- Provide operational support during workshops, meetings, and other field activities.
- Prepare attendance lists, minutes, photographic records, and supporting documentation of activities.
- Distribute informational and sensitization materials to participants and territorial actors.
- Support collection, organization, systematization, and updating of technical, operational, and documentary information generated in the field.
- Collect and consolidate technical and operational information for reports, matrices, databases, and project documents.
- Prepare minutes, progress reports, and periodic reports on field activities.
- Update databases, monitoring matrices, and operational project records.
- Systematize information, technical evidence, and photographic documentation collected during field activities.
- Maintain organized and updated physical and digital files related to project document management.
- Support preparation, preliminary review, and consolidation of technical and documentary project products to ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery.
- Collect and organize supporting information for terms of reference, agreements, and other technical and administrative documents.
- Consolidate information from different activities and territorial actors for project product preparation.
- Support preliminary review of reports, technical documents, and products developed within the project framework.
- Verify coherence, technical consistency, and quality of collected and systematized information.
- Support editing, writing improvement, and timely delivery of documents and inputs for final review and validation by project coordination.
- Support knowledge creation, exchange, and capacity development relevant to the assigned project.
- Assist in dissemination and exchange of relevant data and lessons learned within the project.
- Contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice; support collection and systematization of project knowledge, products, and tools.
- Perform other activities within the functional profile necessary for efficient office and organizational functioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience OR High School certificate with 5 years of experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience with secondary education or two (2) years with a Bachelor's degree in functions strictly related to the Ecuadorian metallic mining sector.
- Experience in the use of computer tools (Excel, Office / Open Office, and internet).
- Desirable experience of at least two (2) years working in metallic artisanal and small-scale mining (MAPE).
- Experience interacting with public sector, private sector, civil society, and/or international organizations.
- Experience in gold beneficiation and/or recovery processes in hard rock and/or alluvial mining.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and supporting coordination with local actors.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
- Availability to travel frequently nationwide if required by the project.
