The Community Volunteer Engagement Senior Specialist is responsible for growing community volunteer capacity, engaging external partners and the community to meet local needs for community-based programming including preparedness programs, restoring family links, veteran services, and other regionally approved services. The role involves managing volunteer services workforce systems, designing volunteer opportunities, and leading volunteer teams locally and regionally.
Responsibilities
- Grow the community volunteer capacity, engage external partners and the community to meet local needs for community based programming including preparedness programs, restoring family links, veteran services and other regionally approved services.
- Liaise with community programming leads (Executive Directors and Community Volunteer Leaders) to understand and meet workforce needs.
- Community Services Volunteer management.
- Create visibility and engagement of internal volunteers, youth groups, and partners in chapter opportunities.
- Design and share new and non-traditional volunteer opportunity types to mobilize the community.
- Manage the Volunteer Services workforce systems and processes to ensure recurrent and one-time community services are staffed fully.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the design of volunteer opportunities to best meet the needs of the community, organization and volunteer.
- Support the organizational learning and adoption of new and non-traditional volunteer opportunities with line of business.
- Data and reporting on Community Services volunteer impact.
- Program and process improvement.
- Directly lead teams of volunteers locally and regionally.
- Support peers across the region who may lead local community volunteer teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of related education and experience required.
- 5-7 years related experience required.
- Volunteer Management experience preferred.
- 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong training and presentation skills.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to people of diverse backgrounds and education levels.
- Knowledge of group dynamics, customer maintenance techniques, negotiation skills, and the ability to effectively implement programs is preferred.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple and continuously evolving priorities effectively are required.
- Recruiting experience OR the ability to effectively communicate and represent Red Cross mission and activities in a positive and realistic manner is required.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- May involve travel.
- A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
- Physical requirements include ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; ability to stand, walk and manipulate light to medium weights up to 20 pounds; good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
- Work is performed indoors with some potential exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work.
- May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system.
- Staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster.
