The Protection Assistant supports the direct and daily implementation of protection project activities in the assigned operational area, ensuring timely and appropriate execution according to the context. The role involves operational protection actions including initial assistance and referral of persons at risk, community-based protection activities, protection monitoring, and dissemination of information on access to rights and available services.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, manuals and institutional guidelines in performing duties.
- Directly support implementation of protection project portfolio according to action plans and supervision guidance.
- Execute delegated procedures and activities in line with technical guidelines.
- Organize and perform assigned tasks according to priorities, schedules and institutional standards.
- Maintain and strengthen practical knowledge in protection to effectively support field activities.
- Support resolution of daily operational problems following procedures and standards.
- Prepare and deliver basic inputs for progress or status reports as required by supervision, ensuring timely and quality information.
- Ensure proper filing and organized management of documentation related to role and project activities.
- Promote and share observations or improvement proposals to strengthen activity implementation.
- Support implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming (PSI) activities relevant to unit or team.
- Attend relevant PSI Basic Package training modules including mandatory ones on PSI basics, PSEA, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
- Support direct implementation of protection activities in assigned area aligned with protection and humanitarian principles to ensure safe, inclusive and quality responses.
- Disseminate information on protection services facilitating access to rights, referral pathways and available resources.
- Participate in identification of protection risks, needs and gaps through direct observation and field data collection, reporting findings to supervision.
- Support and execute protection case management actions including initial assistance, guidance and referral under supervision and established standards.
- Implement community-based protection activities including community participation, capacity strengthening and social cohesion.
- Conduct protection monitoring activities including data collection and recording on risks, needs and protection gaps as per procedures.
- Maintain operational contact with local authorities, communities and implementing partners as directed to support coordination and outreach.
- Participate in sector coordination spaces when assigned, ensuring timely reporting of relevant protection activities.
- Provide inputs for regular, ad-hoc and donor reports on protection activities following formats and guidance.
- Support logistical planning and organization of field visits including donor visits to facilitate monitoring, visibility and institutional relations.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor to fulfill job objectives.
Requirements
- Professional degree in law, social work, social sciences, humanities, political sciences or related fields.
- Minimum one (1) year of work experience in direct implementation of protection activities in the field.
- Experience working in humanitarian, emergency and/or human mobility contexts.
- Experience in complex and changing operational contexts with direct interaction with affected populations.
- Basic knowledge of humanitarian and protection principles.
- Basic knowledge of age, gender and diversity (AGD) approach.
- Ability to apply procedures, technical guidelines and operational orientations defined by supervision.
- Basic knowledge of English language.
- Proficiency in computer tools (MS Office / Office 365).
- Experience in one or more protection work lines: initial case management, community-based protection and/or protection monitoring according to established procedures and referral pathways.
- Experience working directly with persons and communities affected by humanitarian crises, armed conflict and/or human mobility.
- Knowledge of national and international human rights and protection frameworks.
- Ability to operate effectively in complex operational contexts with respectful, clear and culturally appropriate communication.
- Knowledge of relevant native or local languages is an asset.
