The Driver and Protocol Clerk provides reliable and safe driving services to the UN Women Special Representative to the Africa Union and UNECA and other UN officials and visitors, ensuring discretion, integrity, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security. The role also includes performing protocol and administrative tasks with high quality and accuracy, supporting logistical and protocol arrangements, and maintaining vehicle and fuel logs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reliable and secure driving services for UN Women officials, visitors, and personnel.
  • Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to government offices, embassies, commercial establishments, and UN offices.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and assist with visa and customs formalities when required.
  • Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Adhere to UN Women vehicle management policies and security standards.
  • Record accurate odometer readings and fuel purchases, maintain vehicle maintenance records, and submit reports to supervisor.
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle including routine checks and cleaning.
  • Maintain and ensure availability of all required vehicle documents and supplies.
  • Provide general administrative, logistic, and protocol support including logistical support for protocol-related arrangements and maintaining protocol-related records.
  • Support arrangements for official visits and assist in preparing routine protocol correspondence.
  • Ensure timely processing of issuance/renewal of diplomatic identity cards, driving licenses, vehicle registration, and related documentation.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Defensive driving certification is an asset.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record.
  • Experience in administration, logistical, protocol support services is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining accurate vehicle and fuel logs, including record-keeping practices that support audit and accountability requirements, is required.
  • Experience working with Government partners is desirable.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
  • Fluency in Amharic is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
