The Field Security Assistant supports the Security Unit of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) by obtaining and assessing security information, managing security incidents, conducting investigations, and liaising with local authorities to ensure safety and security of UN personnel and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Obtains comprehensive security information and assesses impact on the safety and security in the Mission.
- Constant monitoring of open sources, collection of information through interlocutors and develop situational awareness.
- Assist in managing security and safety incidents / crisis.
- Manages all aspects of the administration and logistical work of the security unit.
- Receives, records, and appropriately takes action based on information received through all communication means.
- Assist in maintaining fire safety preparedness in all UNMOGIP facilities and conduct Fire safety assessment and periodical drills for UNMOGIP facilities.
- Conducts investigations as directed and prepares comprehensive reports on accidents and incidents involving UN personnel, installations and equipment.
- Liaises and coordinates, as appropriate, with the host government security organizations and/or personnel, including national and local provincial authorities, military, police as well as non-governmental organizations in the area of operation.
- Liaises and exchanges security related information with all components of the mission and other UN agencies in the area.
- Conducts premises security assessment of UNMOGIP facilities and international staff residences.
- Prepares and provides security briefings, written security advice and recommendations to the Mission hierarchy.
- Assist in maintaining security and fire safety information database.
- Helps in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan.
- Monitor and assess Security and safety Service providers performance.
- Assists with the monitoring of the security measures implementation as recommended in the Security Risks Management (SRM) process.
- Assist in security budget preparation and security procurement through low value acquisition process.
- Carries out any other duties assigned by the Chief Security Officer.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Candidates willing to visit remote areas and respond to work and emergencies 24/7 are encouraged to apply.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- A minimum of Five years of related work experience in Military, Police or Security is required.
- The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to three (03) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree.
- Experience in dealing with gender-based security, victim support, investigating sexual offence cases is desirable.
- Experience in managing security and safety incident is desirable.
- Knowledge on security information analysis and prepare reports using MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint is desirable.
- English language proficiency at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
