The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services in support of the UNESCO Office in Santiago, ensuring discretion, integrity, and adherence to protocol and security standards. The role includes vehicle maintenance, assisting with administrative tasks, and supporting the office's operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive UNESCO staff, officials, visitors and authorized personnel using official/project vehicles ensuring reliable and safe driving services.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate basic visa and customs formalities when required.
  • Translate in local language for the Head/Director of the Office and/or official personnel using the vehicle when necessary.
  • Drive vehicle on field trips as required.
  • Ensure cost-savings through proper day-to-day use and maintenance of the assigned vehicle including daily vehicle logs, minor repairs, and arranging major repairs.
  • Ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, registration, logs, office directory, maps, first aid kit, and spare parts.
  • Keep track of insurance and other tax formalities and report accidents timely and accurately.
  • Assist on installations and use of HF, VHF radio and satellite phone in the vehicle.
  • Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items as required.
  • Perform other duties such as photocopying, binding, assisting with filing, paying some office bills when not driving.
  • Support administrative tasks and engage in self-directed learning during non-driving periods.
  • Undertake any other duties required to ensure the success of the work team.

Requirements

  • A secondary education is required.
  • A valid driver`s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • The candidate must possess safe driving and vehicle maintenance skills.
  • Emergency response, protocol compliance and digital tools experience are required.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Basic knowledge of English.
  • Defensive driving and first aid certification represent a strong asset.
  • Experience in customs procedures and protocol is desirable.
  • Demonstrate high standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, adaptability, and protocol awareness.
  • Apply a client‑oriented approach with courtesy, tact, and a strong sense of responsibility, and work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English is an asset
