The Staff Assistant is responsible for managing and maintaining the targets database (ICC/JTS/FAST) to support NATO's joint targeting process. The role involves coordinating target information, managing user access, and supporting military operations and exercises, contributing to NATO 2030 objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage and maintain the targets database (Integrated Command and Control / Joint Targeting System / Functional Area Service for Dynamic and time-sensitive Targeting - ICC/JTS/FAST).
  • Manage prioritization of the Joint Targeting List (JTL) and related target lists.
  • Manage target databases and assist in compiling Joint Target Lists (JTL) and related Target Lists as well as developing and managing target folders, using JTS, in support of the NATO Joint Targeting Process.
  • Manage Joint Targeting System organization and access.
  • In coordination with component commands, identify and manage target information supporting the joint targeting process to achieve both lethal and non-lethal effects to include nuclear operations.
  • Assist in development of target system analysis (TSA) products in coordination with J2 analysts and subject matter experts throughout the HQ.
  • Work closely with the Joint Effects team, including J35 targeting and Communications Directorate Information Operations / Psychological Operations personnel.
  • Participate in the Information Activities Working Group and Board as needed.
  • Undertake work as part of a project team or working group as directed or assigned.
  • Develop, define, and refine follow on requirements for the position.
  • Conduct Target Material Production (TMP) in support of the full scope of the NATO joint targeting process for both real world and exercise activity.
  • Set up Joint Targeting System / Functional Area Service for Dynamic and time-sensitive Targeting (JTS/FAST) according to User needs.
  • Manage Joint Targeting System / Functional Area Service for Dynamic and time-sensitive Targeting (JTS/FAST) products and environment.
  • Create and manage Dynamic Targeting User accounts.
  • May be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments, both within and without NATO boundaries.

Requirements

  • English – good – NATO Standard Language Proficiency 3322 (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in accordance with NATO standard agreement (STANAG) 6001.
  • Secondary education AND completed vocational training in relevant field/subject.
  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience conducting target data management within NATO or national Military of Defence/ Department of Defence.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience using a targeting system as a Data Manager.
  • Participation in exercises (joint and/or strategic level) executing data management with other commands and/or Nations.
  • Professional experience with management and administration of information systems including web applications (such as Microsoft 365 or similar).
  • Minimum 1-year professional experience applying computer information security methods and procedures to protect databases and safeguard sensitive data.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in military intelligence.
  • Desirable: Experience working with Integrated Command and Control (ICC) System and Joint Targeting Systems (JTS).
  • Desirable: Targeting experience with Collateral Damage Estimation, Battle Damage Assessment, Intermediate Target Development, and/or Joint Targeting at the national, multinational and/or NATO level.
  • Desirable: Experience in intelligence support to targeting.
  • Desirable: Participation in NATO exercise(s).
  • Desirable: Completion of relevant courses / trainings.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written - able to communicate at all levels.
  • Good interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • High level of organisational and coordination skills.
