The intern will support the Economic Analysis and Policy Division in conducting research and policy analysis on macroeconomic trends and sustainable development. Duties include quantitative and qualitative research inputs for the World Economic Situation and Prospects publication, data analysis, and logistical support for policy seminars.
Responsibilities
- Conduct background research and literature reviews on latest macroeconomic developments, policies (monetary, fiscal, industrial, financing, trade) and sustainable development.
- Conduct quantitative data analysis, including identifying and collecting macroeconomic data from primary and secondary sources, visualizing data, and conducting basic economic modelling.
- Assist in updating and improving the economic models managed by the Branch.
- Assist in the organization of policy seminars or expert group meetings for the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2027 report, help prepare background materials, provide logistical support, and assist in the drafting of a summary report of the meetings.
- Support the team in their day-to-day activities and tasks, including servicing requests for information, developing presentations and updating databases.
- Prepare a presentation on the work or the findings and outcomes of the internship to the branch’s staff.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
- Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
- Applicants must have working knowledge of statistical/econometric software such as Stata, Eviews or R.
- Proven experience in using large-scale datasets and descriptive statistics is desirable.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
