The internship supports UNEP’s Risk Management and Peacebuilding Section (RMPB) in programmatic, evaluative, communications and outreach activities, including partnerships and networks. The intern will assist with management and operations, content creation, event organization, and data analysis to promote ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and climate security approaches.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day management and operations of the RMPB Section, including updating and maintaining documentation and communication materials.
- Maintain and monitor the RMPB Section’s content management systems, social media follower database, and Flickr account.
- Support the implementation of RMPB Section’s communication strategy through social media and newsletters.
- Develop a weekly newsletter focusing on CPS and Eco-DRR related issues and respond to user inquiries.
- Assist in daily maintenance of knowledge management platforms including the Virtual Global Support Centre.
- Provide content creation support for social media channels including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Contribute ideas to increase audience engagement across digital channels.
- Support development and maintenance of the RMPB Section website.
- Support programmatic content development including background research for concept notes and programme documents.
- Support development of Climate Security Risk assessments and manage project deliverables and policy support.
- Organize and execute events such as webinars and conference side events, including drafting agendas, invitations, preparatory documents, presentations, minutes, and follow-up.
- Create communications products such as presentations and flyers.
- Update RMPB Section/CSM websites as requested.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, data collection and analysis to identify trends and provide insights through visualization of qualitative, quantitative and geospatial analyses.
- Support secretariat and management of the Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR).
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program with background in communications, environmental sciences, environmental policy, disaster management, climate change studies, informational graphics, graphic design, environment-related advocacy, or other related fields.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
- Strong interest and familiarity with social media and online communication tools.
- Experience in web content management systems and graphics design (using Adobe Suite or Canva) would be an asset.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in data management and visualization tools.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
