The Health and Wellness Intern will support the IRC's mission by assisting recently displaced refugees and immigrants in accessing medical care and health education resources. The intern will work closely with the Health Program Coordinator and local healthcare providers to coordinate health screenings, follow-up care, and advocate for clients' healthcare needs.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Health Program Coordinator in coordinating newly arrived refugee clients in their initial health screening appointments at the Department of Public Health.
- Assist the team in maintaining a dynamic tracking system for ongoing medical and high-priority health appointments, ensuring seamless coordination for clients.
- Conduct follow-up calls with clients who have recently visited medical providers to gather information about upcoming appointments, follow-up care, and assess their experiences.
- Coordinate and advocate for refugee clients' healthcare needs.
- Engage with data entry, analysis, and administrative tasks related to health services.
Requirements
- Current undergraduate, graduate student, or recently graduated student with a focus in Public Health or a related field.
- Understanding and ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information.
- Flexible, resourceful, and collaborative when working independently and in a team setting.
- Be fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC standards.
- Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal.
- Must pass a background check.
- Commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization.
- This is an in-person role.
- This position will report to the Health and Wellness Supervisor.
