The Deputy Regional Disaster Officer supports the Southern California Region by overseeing a team of paid and volunteer workforce to implement the volunteer-led disaster cycle services program. The role involves ensuring communities are ready to respond to disasters and managing disaster relief operations in alignment with program standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct an employee and diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster services programming throughout the region.
  • Ensure disaster services are delivered in a rapid, accessible, and equitable manner, both culturally and linguistically, to meet urgent disaster-caused needs.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of the entire disaster cycle services program in alignment with Fundamental Principles and established program standards.
  • Champion and drive the development of regional Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Lead regional efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.
  • Build relationships and collaborate in the matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.
  • Act as the regional disaster leader and Red Cross disaster subject matter expert.
  • Initiate, scale, coordinate and manage disaster relief operations in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience.
  • 5 years of management experience of paid or volunteer workforce.
  • Travel may be required.
  • A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to interpret program trends, results, formulate recommendations, and develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representative of all the demographics of this community, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outside of regular duty hours, including nights and weekends.
