The consultant will support UNEP Nature, Youth and Advocacy team’s work on youth and education projects including the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge, Sport for Nature and Playing for the Planet. The role involves project design, communications, and engagement with youth organizations to scale up environmental education initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the UNEP Nature, Youth and Advocacy team’s work on youth and education projects such as the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge, Sport for Nature and Playing for the Planet.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer of Wastewater Unit and overall supervision of the Chief, Source to Sea Pollution Unit.
  • Engage with formal and non-formal education partners to extend the reach of environmental education.
  • Design and manage projects to secure buy-in and generate results.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse partners and write high-quality reports and proposals.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Masters’ degree or equivalent) in communications, political science, environmental management or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
  • Strong track record of designing projects that secure buy-in and generate results and ability to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively is required.
  • Ability to bring a diverse group of individuals and partners together to agree a collective programme of work as well as able to write high-quality reports and proposals as required is required.
  • Experience of working with youth and youth organizations with insight as to how to work with such institutions around the tasks described in the job.
  • Ability to think creatively about how to evolve pre-existing programmes to have maximum impact (desirable).
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
