The Climate Adaptation Expert will play a key role in shaping climate adaptation and resilience across the mobility sector by providing expert guidance on lending and advisory operations. The role involves supporting project-level due diligence, contributing to policy and advisory work, and collaborating with various experts to drive impactful climate adaptation solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide trusted advice on adaptation and resilience matters to Mobility Department specialists and Heads of Division
- Support due diligence of operations exposed to high physical climate risks, including review and analysis of climate risk and vulnerability assessments
- Contribute to policy and advisory work, including the 2026 review of the EIB’s Adaptation Strategy
- Provide practical expertise on planning and design of climate-adapted transport infrastructure and related advisory work
- Strengthen quality assurance throughout the project cycle ensuring alignment with environmental, climate and social standards
- Engage actively across departments and Bank-level working groups to support climate risk assessment system implementation
- Coordinate and manage consultancy support to meet business needs
- Build and maintain internal knowledge base on climate adaptation and resilience through workshops and tutorials
- Develop and nurture external partnerships to advance the EIB’s climate adaptation work
Requirements
- University degree (minimum an equivalent at bachelor level) in a relevant subject e.g. engineering or economics, preferably with additional qualifications linked to environmental or climate science
- At least 5 years of experience combining experience in project preparation or appraisal in a relevant area, and practical experience on how to reflect and implement climate resilience and adaptation into projects
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively across multiple departments, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives
- Experience in managing complex projects or activities that require broad cooperation and integration of expertise from various teams
- Excellent knowledge of English and good command of French. Knowledge of other EU languages would be a distinct advantage
- Proficiency in English and French is a pre-requisite for career development, with level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses (B1.2 CEFRL) recommended
