The Architect Intern will assist with design drawings, sketches, and basic projects under supervision at the United Nations Office at Nairobi. The internship involves supporting facilities management tasks including preparing contracts, reports, CAD drawings, and conducting research on building codes and materials.
Responsibilities
- Assist with design drawings, make sketches and complete basic projects.
- Discuss project requirements with the team.
- Organize files and materials.
- Visit worksites to ensure everything goes as planned.
- Prepare contracts, reports, CAD drawings and diagrams.
- Generate design development ideas.
- Research building codes and standards.
- Develop 3D conceptual designs.
- Prepare design mock-ups and color boards.
- Research different types of building materials, lighting fixtures and other products.
- Order product samples and do basic calculations for projects.
- Conduct research for the project team and/or revise drawings.
- Attend project staff meetings.
- Perform administrative work and analytical tasks.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
- Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate or graduate including Bachelors of science/ Arts in Architecture and related field.
- Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
