The Protection Assistant supports the implementation of the Protection from Violence portfolio by assisting in case management, data collection, and coordination with stakeholders. The role involves responding to cases in a safe and timely manner, maintaining case management databases, and supporting emergency response activities in Kampala, Uganda.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the Protection from Violence portfolio according to plan of action
  • Implement procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
  • Organize and deliver tasks in line with priorities and standards
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work
  • Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by line management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents for all cases assisted
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement
  • Identify and respond to cases in a safe and dignified manner
  • Ensure timely referral of cases to other stakeholders
  • Support qualitative data collection and assessments
  • Carry out regular field and home visits in line with case management processes
  • Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
  • Address cases identified through feedback and referral mechanisms
  • Support analysis of Protection from Violence trends
  • Assist in identifying and responding to emergency cases
  • Support development of concept notes and activities
  • Participate in mapping exercises and assessments
  • Maintain case management database
  • Submit timely reports on activities
  • Identify changes and trends related to violence
  • Collect and transmit documents and activity reports

Requirements

  • University degree in law, social studies, development studies/other relevant field
  • Experience from working as a Protection Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and ideally a relevant vocational qualification
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with case management (general protection case management preferred, GBV or CP acceptable)
  • Experience with psychosocial support, PFA, preferred
