The UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA) Partnerships and Communications Team seeks a highly qualified graduate student to support strategic partnerships in the region. The intern will conduct research and analysis on private sector financing, Diaspora and CSO engagements, organize partner outreach and dialogue, and support partnership-related communications and events.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of regional and country-specific donor (including IFI) mappings and trend analysis.
  • Develop 2-page Partnership Profiles of DAC, non-DAC, IFIs including updating financial figures and researching new strategic collaboration opportunities.
  • Provide research input on themes such as private sector financing in Africa, Diaspora, and CSO engagements.
  • Compile lessons learned and experiences from other UNDP Bureaus regarding engagement with DAC and non-DAC partners.
  • Support partnership-building efforts through organizing partner outreaches, meetings, and dialogues.
  • Research and scan partnership-related news relevant to Africa for RBA’s Executive Weekly contribution.
  • Support setting up an RBA Monthly Partnerships Bulletin by collecting and collating relevant information.
  • Support communication and dissemination of information on strategic partnerships including development of outreach materials.
  • Organize meetings, events, webinars; prepare meeting minutes and undertake follow-up actions.
  • Attend relevant events/meetings and capture/report outcomes.
  • Execute other duties as entrusted by the RBA Strategic Partnerships Specialist.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Economics, African Studies, History, Social Science, International Development, Development Studies, or other relevant fields, or have graduated with such a degree within one year prior to the internship start date.
  • Proven understanding of international development, development financing and multilateralism particularly the UN system.
  • Excellent analytical and data handling capability.
  • Good understanding and experience in current knowledge management technologies.
  • Excellent organizational, general administration, time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to produce information visually.
  • Ability for problem-solving, multi-tasking, meet deadlines and work under pressure, strong follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a constantly evolving work environment.
  • Strong English language skills (oral and written).
  • Must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan.
  • Internship is unpaid but a modest monthly stipend is provided to cover basic daily expenses such as meals and transportation.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in UNDP during the internship period.
