The Staff Officer (Intelligence Support to Exercises) provides expert intelligence support to NATO exercises, advising on the Exercise Process and managing intelligence inputs across all stages. The role involves planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation of intelligence collective training exercises, supporting HQ and affiliated organizations, and mentoring intelligence stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Advise the J2 Division as a Subject Matter Expert on NATO Exercise Process and its intelligence application, making intelligence support decisions on behalf of ACOS J2.
- Act as the focal point in JFCBS J2 for all aspects of the Exercise Process’ intelligence aspects for NATO and national affiliated organizations.
- Lead Intelligence/JISR Exercise Process activities in JFCBS HQ and affiliated organizations, developing exercise solutions supporting intelligence collective training in a multi-domain environment.
- Define, supervise, validate, consolidate and manage Exercise Process’ Intelligence inputs to key exercise documents across all stages and blocks.
- Advise actionable, measurable and testable requirements for CIS and exercise planning of Intelligence Services involved in exercises.
- Direct, advise and mentor intelligence stakeholders to ensure consistency and enforce planning standards across all Exercise Process stages and blocks.
- Define, develop and execute the J27 Section’s newcomers’ introduction plan regarding Exercise Process practical application; support courses as lecturer/facilitator.
- Support preparation, execution and evaluation of non-certification/minor HQ exercises with intelligence expertise.
- Analyse exercises’ Lessons Identified and Learned to identify intelligence collective training shortfalls and negotiate implementation with stakeholders.
- Undertake work as part of project teams as directed or assigned.
- May be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments within and outside NATO boundaries, potentially exceeding 30 days.
Requirements
- English – good – NATO Standard Language Proficiency 3333 (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in accordance with NATO standard agreement (STANAG) 6001.
- University Degree or equivalent in related field/discipline (equivalent is Higher Secondary Education AND completed advanced vocational training in relevant field leading to a professional certification or accreditation).
- Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in Intelligence Functional Areas in Operational or Strategic level HQs.
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in Collective Training and Exercise processes.
- Minimum 3 years' professional experience in a managerial position.
- Professional experience in Collective Training and Exercise processes in NATO, in line with BI-SC 075-003 (desirable).
- Experience developing Exercise and Training Objectives and MELMIL (desirable).
- Proven knowledge of NATO Collective Training and Exercise Processes (desirable).
- Working knowledge of Intelligence Services INTEL FS and BICES (desirable).
- Working knowledge of additional NATO Intel Services’ (desirable).
- Knowledge of Intelligence Doctrine (AJPs) hierarchy and purpose (desirable).
- Knowledge of Operational level staff processes (desirable).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Required to pass a medical examination before employment contract offer is released.
