The Resident Advisor will support IMF-Africa Training Institute member countries to develop capacities in macroeconomic analysis, policy, and program design. The role involves teaching macroeconomic courses, curriculum development, and providing technical assistance to sub-Saharan African countries.
Responsibilities
- Teach several macroeconomic policy courses in conjunction with IMF HQ-based staff to public sector officials from sub-Saharan African countries.
- Be actively involved in the preparation of course material on topics of relevance to the region, including updating lecture materials, developing case studies, and tailoring course material for specific countries or groups.
- Support the IMF’s Institute for Capacity Development macro-frameworks technical assistance practice helping countries develop macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis capacity.
- Conduct original research on economic issues of relevance to ATI's training mission, time permitting.
- Contribute to annual reports, newsletters, Steering Committee meetings, outreach, and engagements with donor partners.
Requirements
- Applicants should have a Ph.D., or Master’s degree in economics or finance.
- Strong background in macroeconomics and preferably modeling.
- Special interest in financial sector issues, public finance, monetary and exchange rate policies, and structural issues (climate, inequality, gender, or economic regional integration).
- Extensive practical experience in the development of macro-modeling tools, including in developing countries with limited statistical capacities.
- Knowledge of forecasting and macroeconomic diagnostics is desirable.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills in English are essential.
- Knowledge of French or Portuguese is desired but not essential.
- Applicants must be willing to travel within the sub-Saharan Africa region.
- All travels are subject to strict compliance with IMF travel and security policy.
