The Senior Field Security Associate supports the Field Security Officer in South Sudan by providing specialized support for security risk management and maintaining security awareness for IOM activities. The role involves liaising with security stakeholders, conducting security risk assessments, supporting security plans, and ensuring staff safety and security measures are implemented effectively.
Responsibilities
- Assist in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with country United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) office, host government agencies, and local authorities responsible for security.
- Assist the Field Security Officer in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the mission.
- Support the development and implementation of IOM Country Office-specific security plans including contingency and emergency response plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
- Assist with the conduct of Security Risk Management (SRM) and monitoring of security measures implementation in coordination with UNDSS.
- Provide support in conducting security evaluations and advice on Residential Security Measures (RSM) to IOM personnel.
- Support management of the Country Office Warden system and ensure operability of communications systems such as SCAAN.
- Assist in reporting security incidents affecting IOM personnel, premises, assets, and operational activities.
- Support organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness and provide security orientation to new personnel.
- Maintain an orderly filing system for confidential correspondence, security files/documents, and databases on security contacts.
- Implement security measures, verify access control procedures, and propose improvements.
- Assist in investigations and follow-up of incidents affecting IOM personnel, premises and assets.
- Maintain liaison with commercial companies used for UN security offices and residences to facilitate guard force use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- University degree in Security, Social Sciences, International Studies, Communications or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience;
- Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with six years of relevant professional experience.
- Relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private or corporate sector is desirable;
- Experience in such areas as security programmes, risk assessments, or analysis is desirable;
- Experience in operational security risk management, investigations or physical security is desirable;
- Experience in the use of radio communications is desirable;
- Successful completion of the UNDSS Field Security Associate (FSA) course is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with senior government security counterparts and relevant stakeholders is an advantage;
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds;
- Excellent oral and written skills; fluency in English is required (oral and written).
- Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
