Specialist in diabetes responsible for evaluating and contributing to the improvement of diabetes care in MSF projects in Carnot and Bria, Central African Republic. The role supports the introduction of new insulin analogues and the transition to a basal-bolus insulin regimen, including therapeutic education activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide refresher training on type 1 and type 2 diabetes for clinical staff (outpatient and inpatient consultations).
  • Provide technical support during consultations and hospitalization activities.
  • Review patient pathways between hospitalization (IPD) and outpatient consultations (OPD) for diabetic patients and evaluate transfer mechanisms.
  • Conduct patient care reviews.
  • Train and support staff on consultation skills for diabetes management (including type 2 diabetes without insulin), including history taking, analysis of self-monitoring blood glucose results, screening for complications, and insulin dose adjustment according to results.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of prescribed treatments, particularly insulin use.
  • Train and support clinic staff on insulin adjustment according to MSF Guidelines, especially during patient transition to basal-bolus insulin regimen (from NPH human or biphasic insulin to basal-bolus analog insulin).

Requirements

  • Medical degree with specialization or strong experience in diabetes and/or endocrinology.
  • Solid clinical experience in diabetes management in adults (consultation and hospitalization).
  • Experience in pediatrics is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Most recent clinical experience within the last year.
  • Training in tropical medicine or experience in resource-limited settings is desirable.
  • Experience in training, supervision, and capacity building.
  • Good command of French (oral and written).
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team.
