The Associate Communications Officer supports the formulation, review, and execution of strategic communications for designated departments and offices, thematic areas, topical campaigns, and other institutional priorities at ADB. The role involves media relations, communication planning, crisis communication support, and coordination with client departments and Resident Missions.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning and prioritization of DOCK-led and client-led outputs for designated departments and offices, thematic areas, topical campaigns, and other institutional priorities
- Support coordination with client departments to develop and execute communication plans based on operational and institutional priorities
- Help prepare communications and knowledge advisory plans for major DOCK-led outputs including production, dissemination, and marketing strategies
- Contribute to strategic communications to strengthen donor engagement, raise ADB's visibility, and position donor countries as valued development partners
- Help prioritize DOCK support for unplanned/other communications activities
- Be the primary contact with international media
- Build and maintain relationships with ADB target media outlets and individual journalists
- Help update and manage media contact databases to support proactive relationship management with key journalists
- Assist Resident Mission Communications Officers by providing guidance and helping coordinate communication activities
- Contribute to communication planning for Resident Missions by supporting DOCK-led advice and helping organize production and quality review processes
- Help prioritize and track DOCK support for Resident Mission communication needs, such as reviewing materials and coordinating production tasks
- Support ADB issues and crisis communications
- Help monitor emerging reputational risks and flag potential issues to management
- Contribute to responses for crisis or high-risk issues, including drafting holding statements, Q&As, and reactive media lines
- Provide on-call support as required during incidents or crises
- Support planning and execution for communication activities for the Annual Meeting
- Perform other related tasks – technical and administrative – that may be assigned by supervising Technical International Staff and reflected in the workplan
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, International Relations, or related field; preferably with advanced training
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in journalism, media relations, public affairs, or strategic communications in the public or private sector
- Understanding of strategic communications planning and campaign development
- Proficiency in media relations, including building relationships with journalists and managing media inquiries
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Excellent oral communications skills and team orientation
