E T Consultant Global Research Economist

The World Bank Development Economics Planet (DECPT) unit's Land Team seeks an Extended Term Consultant to support global monitoring of land data, research on land policy, and implementation of impact evaluations related to land use and markets. The role involves generating and analyzing global spatial and institutional data to inform policy reforms and Bank lending strategies.

Responsibilities

• Support the unit's research program by implementing impact evaluations of innovative programs using farmer and land registries to improve land productivity, public support effectiveness, and land value capture
• Facilitate learning across regions and countries and draw implications for operational approaches
• Support generation and analysis of global spatial and institutional data to increase resilience, inform policy reforms, and measure institutional effectiveness
• Provide input into analytical products that inform Bank lending and research products
• Link monitoring and evaluation impacts to research products and generate support within the Bank and beyond

Requirements

• PhD in economics or related discipline
• Track record of economic research
• Experience with research in Ethiopia related to land markets or access to finance is an advantage
• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with literature on impact evaluation; familiarity with the literature on land tenure, institutions, and markets
• Demonstrated ability to work with survey, administrative, and geospatial data
• Pipeline of journal publications or publishable work in progress
• Strong communication and presentation skills; proven ability to communicate effectively with policy makers
