UNICEF Mozambique seeks two interns to support budget transparency, school accountability, public information, and project monitoring activities in Nampula and Zambezia provinces. The internship offers practical experience in public financial management, social accountability, community engagement, and data analysis related to education financing and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of citizen-friendly versions of planning and budgeting documents to improve public understanding of PESOD and education financing.
  • Support the design of simplified communication materials explaining resources allocated to schools and expected results.
  • Contribute to the development of public information templates, school transparency boards and disclosure tools for use by schools and local authorities.
  • Support documentation of good practices and lessons learned on budget transparency initiatives.
  • Support the development and testing of school-level accountability and transparency tools.
  • Assist in assessing how schools communicate information related to resources received and activities implemented.
  • Support collection and analysis of information on transparency practices adopted by schools and School Councils.
  • Contribute to identifying opportunities to strengthen public disclosure and accountability mechanisms at school level.
  • Support engagement with School Councils, Parent Associations, and community representatives.
  • Assist in documenting community perspectives regarding transparency and service delivery.
  • Support awareness-raising activities aimed at strengthening community participation and oversight.
  • Contribute to documenting examples of citizen engagement and accountability practices within project districts.
  • Support collection, compilation and analysis of data related to education financing, transparency and service delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining project monitoring databases and analytical tools.
  • Contribute to the preparation of briefing notes, reports, presentations and knowledge products.
  • Support field visits and monitoring missions in project districts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of evidence products and donor reporting materials.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, degree programme or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Academic background in Economics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Finance, Development Studies, Governance, Statistics, Education Planning, Social Sciences, and/or related fields.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Knowledge of public planning and budgeting processes (desirable).
  • Understanding of governance, transparency, and accountability issues (desirable).
  • Experience in data collection, research or analysis (desirable).
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills (desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (desirable).
  • Experience working with schools, communities, youth groups or civil society organizations (desirable).
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF's working languages: English.
  • Fluency in the working language Portuguese is required.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
