The intern will assist the EGRISS Secretariat in implementing and improving the Global Annual Inclusion (GAIN) survey and managing the associated monitoring database. The role involves supporting survey implementation, improving participation, data analysis, reporting, stakeholder coordination, and exploring innovative technologies including AI for monitoring and knowledge management.
Responsibilities
- Support EGRISS monitoring & evaluation activities including implementation, evaluation and reporting of the Global Annual Inclusion (GAIN) 2026 survey.
- Assist in updates to GAIN 2026 survey questionnaires, protocols and supporting documentation based on lessons learned from previous survey rounds and evaluation processes.
- Help implement the survey schedule, respondent outreach plan and dissemination activities including supporting pre-survey briefings and coordination meetings.
- Maintain an updated list of focal points from national statistical systems, regional bodies and international organizations to enhance the scope and coverage of the GAIN 2026 survey.
- Support implementation of the GAIN 2026 survey as per approved methodology and protocols.
- Assist respondents with technical and methodological questions during data collection and conduct follow-up consultations to improve data completeness and quality.
- Monitor survey participation and response rates throughout data collection, prepare regular progress updates and follow-up with non-responding institutions and underrepresented countries or regions.
- Help compile, organize, clean and validate collected data and monitoring database records.
- Assist in analysing data using appropriate statistical techniques.
- Help prepare GAIN 2026 survey results including tables, figures, maps and analytical content for reporting, technical sub-group workplans and dissemination efforts.
- Update dissemination and reporting tools including GAIN dashboards, infographics and related monitoring products.
- Support implementation and periodic updates of the EGRISS Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) framework including monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators.
- Support testing and documentation of innovative and AI-assisted approaches for coding, classifying, summarizing and reporting implementation examples captured through GAIN.
- Document lessons learned and best practices through evaluation of the GAIN 2026 survey.
- Assist in preparing an annual archive of implemented documents, datasets and reports.
- Support preparation of the EGRISS Annual Report, case studies and other dissemination products.
- Support analytical, editorial and documentation activities related to EGRISS methodological, capacity development and reporting activities.
- Support organization and coordination of meetings, documentation of decisions and actions agreed, and necessary logistical arrangements.
- Support the effective implementation of EGRISS Secretariat responsibilities.
Requirements
- Demonstrated interest in and understanding of official statistics and/or operational data from various sources such as surveys, administrative data, census data, operational data, big data and other types of data.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to support respondent outreach, stakeholder coordination and engagement activities to improve survey participation and response rates.
- Interest to pursue a career in humanitarian/development action, forced displacement, statelessness, migration or related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, Python).
- Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Interest in the use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for data analysis, monitoring and reporting is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of survey methodology and data analysis techniques is a plus.
- Fluency in English language.
- Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of other UN languages, particularly French, Spanish or Russian, is an asset.
- An individual who bears the relationship of parent, child or sibling or step-parent, step-child or step-sibling to a current UNHCR staff member or affiliate is not eligible for an internship.
- Interns must provide proof of health insurance coverage applicable to the assigned internship location and a certificate of good health from a qualified medical practitioner certifying fitness for work and travel.
