The Protection Manager will be responsible for implementing the training plan aimed at strengthening the capacities of local governmental, civil society, and NGO organizations on protection-related issues, focusing on vulnerable communities such as women, girls, adolescents, and the LGBTI community. The role includes general administration and supervision of protection projects and partners in prioritized areas, ensuring quality implementation and coordination with support areas.
Responsibilities
- Support protection activities to identify opportunities for growth, consolidation, and service delivery to improve IRC's humanitarian response.
- Implement the training plan for the project in Chimaltenango and Huehuetenango.
- Plan and ensure quality implementation of activities at municipal and community levels through regular visits to activity sites.
- Provide training and mentoring to community focal points or partners according to the contract duration plan.
- Provide technical recommendations to address protection needs of people on the move and at-risk populations based on continuous analysis of implemented activities.
- Support focal points of prioritized entities through monthly visits to intervention sites of implementing partners or allied institutions.
- Assist in coordinating closure activities of agreements with partners, including lessons learned processes.
- Support program start-up at community level ensuring correct structures before implementation (referral pathways, safe space mapping, organizational capacity, etc.).
- Provide relevant training to community focal points before implementation to ensure technical structure aligned with project needs.
- Ensure community focal points are equipped with referral and information management systems for proper identification and referral of at-risk cases, activated timely per IRC best practices and policy.
- Identify additional training needs during implementation.
- Support identification of focal points for protection coordination activities.
- Support focal points of prioritized entities through frequent visits, mentoring, and technical strengthening.
- Lead expansion of protection component and promote geographic expansion as prioritized.
- Maintain open and professional relationships with local actors and IRC team members, promoting strong team spirit.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of monthly work hours reports and annual performance reviews.
- Coordinate with Monitoring and Evaluation team on tools for protection activity follow-up.
- Monitor and consolidate information from community visits.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on beneficiaries served by implementing partners as established in projects.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key community stakeholders, ensuring universal protection standards, protocols, and policies are implemented and applied across program sites.
- Regularly attend coordination meetings at appropriate levels to support humanitarian assistance management for at-risk persons across agencies and program sites.
Requirements
- University degree in social sciences, pedagogy, social work, psychology, educational administration or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in training local governmental organizations, civil society, and NGOs.
- Understanding and prior work based on humanitarian principles and programming supporting populations affected by violence.
- Proven skills in alliance management and providing technical support and training to teams working for implementing partners.
- Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, prioritize under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable populations such as internally displaced persons, migrants, returnees, survivors of gender-based violence, child protection, persons with disabilities, etc.
- Strong skills in applying international and national legal frameworks.
- Ability to train and facilitate other staff members to align with job functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.
- Results-oriented with ability to meet goals on time and prioritize deliverables.
- Strong leadership to supervise remote teams in the field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Intermediate level of spoken and written English.
- Ability to drive a vehicle and/or motorcycle.
