The internship is located at the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific in Incheon, Republic of Korea, within the Office of Legal Affairs. The intern will support the substantive secretariat functions of UNCITRAL, assisting in promoting international trade law and providing technical assistance in the Asia-Pacific region. The internship is unpaid, full-time, and may be conducted remotely or in person.
Responsibilities
- Support substantive secretariat functions of UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific.
- Assist in promoting certainty in international commercial transactions through dissemination of international trade norms and standards.
- Provide bilateral and multilateral technical assistance to States regarding adoption and interpretation of UNCITRAL texts through workshops and seminars.
- Engage in coordination activities with international and regional organizations active in trade law reform projects in the region.
- Function as a channel of communication between States in the region and UNCITRAL.
Requirements
- Applicants must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Be computer literate in standard software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet research.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and other virtual conferencing software, SharePoint, WordPress, HTML and electronic document management would be an advantage.
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Promotes and advocates for the fundamental values, standards, and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for and protection of human rights.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Applicants must have an excellent command of English.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
- Desirable to have knowledge of standard office computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and general research.
- Desirable to manage time and priorities to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks, which are often time-sensitive.
- Desirable to interact well with people of various social and cultural backgrounds in an occasionally stressful environment.
- Desirable that the field of study is closely related to the type of internship applied for.
