The Protection Assistant – CBP is responsible for implementing community-based protection activities in selected Humera and Maikadra areas, focusing on strengthening community protection networks and providing technical support and training. The role supports sustainability strategies, stakeholder linkages, and capacity building within community-based protection structures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and mapping of existing community-based structures (CBS).
  • Identify appropriate community-based structures to establish or strengthen Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) or Community-Based Protection Focal Points (CBP-FPs).
  • Facilitate and deliver capacity building training for CBPN/FB.
  • Provide technical support for the CBPN to conduct community protection analysis, and develop community action plan that could address the identified protection risks.
  • Ensure adherence to DRC’s Community-Based Protection programming guidance, standards, and protection principles during implementation.
  • Support CBPNs in implementing community action plans through regular follow-up, mentoring, meetings, and monitoring of implementation progress and organizational capacity.
  • Utilize appropriate tools dedicated for the community-based protection program implementation.
  • Support coordination and collaboration among community representatives, local authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) and conduct community awareness raising and information dissemination on identified protection risks and prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain good relationships with CBPNs and other stakeholders to support continues community protection analysis, strengthen the structure, ensure sustainability and promote self-protection.
  • Engage regularly with community-based structures in a respectful, culturally appropriate, and inclusive manner.
  • Participate in relevant trainings such as Community Based Protection and other topics.
  • Adhere to humanitarian principles and protection standards while engaging with communities and CBPNs/CBP-FPs.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all activities conducted, including means of verification, to measure project progress, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Support the development and implementation of transition/exit strategies for community-based protection structures.
  • Facilitate linkages and referrals between CBPNs and relevant service providers, authorities, and humanitarian actors.

  • Support the effective implementation of project activities and contribute to monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of activity reports, CBP tools, attendance records, and other relevant documentation.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all complete appropriate tools and reports.
  • Provide regular updates and inputs on community-based protection activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) processes as required.

Requirements

  • University degree/Diploma in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in an entry to mid-level position, with experience in the field of humanitarian response and IDP protection working for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
  • Experience in community engagement and mobilization.
  • Experience working with community-based structures and local stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder handling and grass root experience.
  • Experience working with displaced or conflict affected populations.
  • Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience implementing Community-Based Protection (CBP) activities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of protection principles, humanitarian standards, and community-based approaches is also desirable.
  • Experience facilitating trainings, awareness-raising sessions, and community discussions.
  • Excellent skills in speaking, reading and writing English, local languages.
