The Generalist Field Officer supports the Field Delegate in planning, implementing, and monitoring protection and prevention activities in Malakal Sub Delegation. The role involves liaising with authorities and other interlocutors, facilitating ICRC activities, organizing seminars and training workshops, and contributing to operational planning and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Acts as the liaison between the ICRC and key political authorities and other relevant interlocutors in Upper Nile State; develops, sustains, and leverages a network of contacts to facilitate ICRC activities and promote understanding of the ICRC, its activities, and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
- Updates the mapping of key interlocutors regularly and maintains contacts with relevant interlocutors on a regular basis.
- Establishes links with South Sudan Red Cross staff and volunteers, where possible, to facilitate ICRC activities.
- Monitors the political, security, and humanitarian situation in the area of responsibility; contributes to environmental scanning and analysis of the socio-political and economic situation and reports on security and operational issues relevant to the ICRC.
- Travels with the Field Delegate, other staff, or independently within Upper Nile State, including Malakal, Panyikang, Pigi, Baliet, Adong, and Maban.
- Contributes relevant analysis for the annual Planning for Results (PfR) process and other operational planning requirements.
- Consolidates relevant data and compiles statistical reports for transmission to relevant departments in accordance with reporting requirements.
- Provides translations during communication sessions and meetings and conducts communication sessions and workshops for various audiences as part of prevention activities.
- Participates in external and internal meetings as required while strictly maintaining the ICRC’s principle of confidentiality.
- Contributes to the preparation of operational reports, field trip reports, weekly and monthly reports, and provides written reports on training sessions, monitoring trips, and other activities as required.
Requirements
- University Degree and vocational training in a humanitarian area, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights, or equivalent field.
- Advanced level of written and oral English, Dinka, and Arabic is essential.
- Knowledge of Nuer, Shilluk, and other local languages is an asset.
- Expert level in computer skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a humanitarian area, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights or similar position.

- Good knowledge of geographically assigned area of responsibility in Upper Nile State.
