The consultant will conduct a qualitative study to deepen understanding of women's empowerment in the area influenced by the Zafranal Mining Project in Peru. The study complements previous quantitative research and aims to inform community engagement strategies and public policy with a gender and intercultural focus.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze previous quantitative study on women's situation in Arequipa.
  • Conduct literature review on gender and mining in Peru and Latin America.
  • Develop detailed work plan, research instruments, and map key actors in the Zafranal project area.
  • Conduct fieldwork including focus groups and semi-structured interviews with women and institutional actors.
  • Ensure ethical research practices including informed consent and confidentiality.
  • Analyze and integrate qualitative findings with quantitative data.
  • Prepare and submit deliverables including work plan, interim report, and final qualitative analysis document with policy recommendations.
  • Coordinate and validate findings with ONU Mujeres Peru and project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social sciences, gender studies, development studies, or related fields.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in qualitative research, gender analysis, and socio-economic studies, preferably in Latin America and/or mining contexts.
  • Experience in designing and conducting qualitative data collection methods such as focus groups and semi-structured interviews.
  • Knowledge of gender equality, women's empowerment, and intersectionality concepts.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Peru and indigenous communities is desirable.
  • Ability to analyze and triangulate qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills in Spanish and/or English.
  • Experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is an asset.
  • Capacity to work remotely and coordinate with the ONU Mujeres Peru team.
