The Chief, Child Nutrition and Development leads and manages the nutrition programme, overseeing strategic planning, implementation, and results delivery. The role includes managing the Nutrition team and coordinating with the Health Programme team to achieve sustainable results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition in line with UNICEF's strategic plans and accountability frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide managerial leadership for the nutrition programme.
  • Lead programme development and planning for child nutrition and development.
  • Manage programme implementation, monitoring, and quality control of results.
  • Provide advisory services and technical support related to nutrition.
  • Engage in advocacy, networking, and partnership building to support nutrition goals.
  • Promote innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the nutrition team.

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field is required.
  • A Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in a relevant area combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree (applicable to internal staff only).
  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in a developing country/development/humanitarian settings in nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant and child health/nutrition care is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Experience in health/nutrition programme/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
