This internship position is located in the UN Office for Partnerships (UN Partnerships) in New York. The intern will support initiatives related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including research, drafting correspondence, supporting events and project implementation, and assisting with communications and database maintenance. The internship is full-time, in person, and lasts 4-6 months starting May 2026 onwards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on topics related to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) initiatives.
- Draft correspondence and background notes.
- Navigate AI tools for productivity.
- Support events and project implementation.
- Assist reviewing project reports both narrative and financial.
- Draft communications to project partners.
- Carry out research on issues related to development, human rights, and gender equality.
- Assist with tracking project negotiation and implementation.
- Assist with maintaining databases.
- Participate as note taker at UN conferences and meetings.
- Support in creating outreach materials.
- Support the work of the front office.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Applicants must meet one of the following: be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree as defined above.
- Applicants pursuing studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
- Be computer literate in standard software applications and AI tools.
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
- Training, education, advanced coursework or skills should benefit the United Nations during the internship.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
- For internships in the USA, non-citizens/permanent residents must obtain a G4 visa and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT).
- Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
- Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
