See your match score & applyThe WASH Officer is responsible for the technical oversight, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of hygiene and sanitation initiatives in Kakuma, Kenya. The role involves planning, designing, and coordinating hygiene and sanitation promotion activities, ensuring alignment with humanitarian standards and collaboration with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight and implementation of hygiene and sanitation initiatives.
- Plan, design, and support project hygiene and sanitation initiatives and methodology.
- Support project assessments and proposal development for sanitation and hygiene promotions.
- Develop specifications for hygiene and sanitation including SOPs, design reports, and technical specifications.
- Ensure hygiene and sanitation promotion activities comply with SOPs, donor guidelines, and humanitarian standards.
- Collaborate with WATSAN officer to integrate hygiene and sanitation promotion with water supply and sanitation interventions.
- Facilitate training for community structures and local authorities on hygiene/sanitation practices and management.
- Monitor and evaluate project activities ensuring timely delivery and documentation.
- Design and conduct quantitative and qualitative assessments, KAP surveys, and follow-up assessments.
- Support fundraising by developing technically sound proposals.
- Maintain good relations with project stakeholders including contractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Engage in relevant clusters and networks for coordination.
- Coordinate with County Government ministries, community-based organizations, NGOs, and other stakeholders for technical support.
- Liaise with communities and agencies to ensure coordination and effective implementation.
- Contribute to integration of WASH programming with other IRC program sectors.
- Develop and deliver reports in accordance with donor and IRC requirements.
- Support development, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH project indicators and standards.
- Maintain up-to-date activity tracking tools for hygiene and sanitation initiatives.
- Participate actively in inter-sectoral activities.
- Support WASH department in other assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Degree in environmental health science, community development, social development public health, or related field.
- A minimum of Three years’ experience working/programming in WASH, humanitarian work or development.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in WASH, Public health, community development.
- Strong skills in PHAST, CLTS, sanitation marketing, design for behavior change models essential.
- Experience in community engagement approaches, participatory approaches, and community negotiation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team.
- Ability to conduct community WASH needs assessment, program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH activities.
- Good understanding of SPHERE and other humanitarian standards.
- Good computer application skills (MS-Office, application software to engineering designs).
