The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking professionals and technicians for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) roles responsible for implementing activities related to safe access to water, sanitation, and hygiene in communities affected by humanitarian emergencies. Responsibilities include community assessments, hygiene promotion, training development, distribution of WASH supplies, monitoring water and sanitation systems, and strengthening community capacities.

Responsibilities

• Implement activities related to safe access to water, sanitation and hygiene in communities affected by humanitarian emergencies.
• Conduct community assessments and hygiene promotion.
• Develop trainings and sensitization activities.
• Distribute WASH supplies.
• Support monitoring of water and sanitation systems.
• Strengthen community capacities.
• Contribute to care for vulnerable populations, promoting community participation, protection and accountability to affected populations.

Requirements

• Professional and technical education in Sanitary Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Health, Social Work, Community Development, Health Education, Risk Management, Social Promotion or related fields.
• Experience for WASH Officer: University degree in relevant fields with minimum 2 to 5 years of experience implementing WASH projects, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Experience in planning, executing, and monitoring WASH activities in urban and/or peri-urban communities.
• Experience in needs assessments, data collection and analysis, report writing, and indicator tracking.
• Experience in hygiene promotion, community mobilization, and capacity building of community leaders and structures.
• Knowledge and experience in distribution of humanitarian supplies including hygiene kits, TANDAS kits, and vector-borne disease prevention items.
• Experience working with community organizations, public institutions, implementing partners, and humanitarian actors.
• Experience in emergency response and early recovery is highly valued.
• Desirable experience in emergencies related to natural disasters, population displacement, or humanitarian crises.
• Knowledge of international humanitarian standards such as Sphere Handbook, Protection Principles, Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP).
• Knowledge of hygiene promotion approaches, community water management, climate resilience, and disaster risk reduction.
• Knowledge of participatory community methodologies applied to WASH.
• Knowledge of monitoring, data collection and analysis tools.
• Basic knowledge of protection, inclusion, gender, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and safeguarding.
• Skills in planning, organizing, and monitoring field activities.
• Facilitation skills for workshops, trainings, and community sensitization.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with different actors.
• Ability to build effective relationships with communities, local authorities, and implementing partners.
• Problem-solving skills in complex contexts.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing emergency environments.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office; knowledge of Kobo, CommCare or other data collection platforms is an advantage.
• Availability to travel and work in the field as required by project operations.
• Experience for WASH Assistant: Technical university degree or final semester student or professional in Environmental Health, Social Promotion, Social Work, Health Education, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Risk Management, Community Development or related fields.
• Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in community, humanitarian or development projects.
• Field experience with rural, peri-urban, indigenous or vulnerable populations.
• Experience supporting hygiene promotion, community mobilization, sensitization and training activities.
• Experience in distribution of humanitarian supplies and community logistics organization.
• Experience in surveys, data collection and activity monitoring in the field.
• Desirable experience in WASH programs, community health, food security or protection.
• Valued experience in emergency contexts, early recovery or disaster response.
• Basic knowledge of WASH concepts.
• Knowledge of hygiene promotion and prevention of water and vector-borne diseases.
• Basic knowledge of participatory methodologies and community work.
• Basic knowledge of protection, gender equality, inclusion, PSEA and safeguarding.
• Basic knowledge in data collection, community monitoring and use of digital tools.
