The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other healthcare practitioners and providing patients with clear instructions on their proper use. The Pharmacist also advises the healthcare team on medication selection, dosage, and therapeutic alternatives, while maintaining accurate records of pharmaceutical consumption, inventory, and stock levels.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications by preparing, compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals in accordance with physician orders and IRC/MOH protocols.
  • Review and interpret physician orders, checking for therapeutic incompatibilities, contraindications, or dosage errors before dispensing.
  • Provide patients with clear information on medication use, dosage, potential side effects, and adherence to treatment.
  • Monitor patient drug therapies and provide pharmacological guidance to the multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Organize and oversee pharmacy technicians' workflow, verifying accurate preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications.
  • Verify order entries, charges, and stock inspections to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records of pharmaceutical consumption, stock levels, and expiry dates.
  • Monitor medication stock levels and forecast pharmaceutical needs, flagging shortages or upcoming expirations to the Doctor of Pharmacy in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions for medications, including temperature control and organization, in line with pharmaceutical guidelines.
  • Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and records.
  • Advise the health team on medication selection, dosage, and therapeutic alternatives based on available stock and patient needs.
  • Respond to questions and requests from health care professionals regarding pharmacological information.
  • Support procurement planning by providing accurate consumption data and stock forecasts to relevant departments.
  • Maintain up-to-date pharmacy records in line with HIS and donor reporting requirements.
  • Prepare periodic reports on pharmaceutical consumption, stock status, and wastage as required by the Doctor of Pharmacy.
  • Perform other related duties within the clinic as may be assigned by the Senior Health Officer
  • Any other tasks requested by the Doctor of Pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of professional experience working as a pharmacist.
  • Licensed and authorized to practice Pharmacy in Jordan.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical dispensing practices, including preparation, compounding, packaging, and labeling of medications.
  • Knowledge of drug interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic incompatibilities, with the ability to identify and flag prescribing errors.
  • Knowledge of essential medicines lists and MoH/WHO pharmaceutical guidelines.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical stock management, including forecasting, inventory control, and expiry monitoring.
  • Knowledge of proper storage requirements for medications, including cold chain management for vaccines and temperature-sensitive drugs.
  • Knowledge of controlled substance management and regulatory requirements for narcotics and similar medications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, record-keeping, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Health Information Systems (HIS) and experience with pharmacy-related data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and the broader multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Fluency in Arabic and working knowledge of English is required.
